Authors for the Philippines

We've seen the pictures. We've heard the stories.

It's too far away - so we wring our hands and say if only, if only there were something I could do ...

You may have raided your piggy banks and sent a donation to the Disaster's Emergency Fund ... and still wished there was more you could do ...

Well, I don't know who set up Authors for the Philippines - but I've been in contact with a woman called Keris Stainton - and dare not imagine how hard she has worked to set up this site, market it, get the whole auction-thingy up and running - all in less than a week!

Writers all over the country are rallying round to do their bit - we can make a difference, if we all pull together. Over the Hill is there - but so are hundreds of other books, editing offers, mentoring, courses - you name it and writers have given in.

So go, browse, see what you can find - there must be treasures ... (but give it a couple of minutes because I want to get there first ...)

And then flop back and raise a glass to Keris Stainton and all those working with her - this site is a huge achievement. If I knew where they were I would send cake.

  1. Jo, this is a truly great initiative. I found your book through your FB link. I also tried to find out if I could add to the list, but I'm obviously just too dumb. Could you post the link here? Keris Stainton is doing a fantastic job, and I'd love to participate as well.

    1. The link that lets you email Keris seems to have been taken down, so maybe they're concentrating on the auction side of things now - so probably the most helpful thing you can do is tweeting and FBing and generally annoying everyone till they get the message that this is important! Thanks for your support, Val - it means a lot.

  2. Where is the link to bid for your book?

    1. I left it out, cos I want people to bid for anything at all - just to raise money cos it's such an important cause. But since you ask so nicely, it's http://authorsforphilippines.wordpress.com/2013/11/17/414-signed-copy-of-travel-memoir-over-the-hill-and-far-away-by-jo-carroll-x2/

  4. Have you put a link to the main site up because I either can't find it or it isn't working? I thought the graphic would be a link but clicking on that just takes me to a page showing that image only.

  5. Hi, I'm one of the people helping Keris with the auction. Thank you so much for your support. The main auction site is here http://authorsforphilippines.wordpress.com/ and the auction ends on Wednesday 20th November at 8pm.

  6. Thank you Keren - the link is embedded in the text, underneath 'Authors for the Philippines' but maybe I should have made that clearer - so thanks for adding this.

And huge thank you for all the work you're doing - where most of us have looked on in horror you've actually done something. Please pass my appreciation on to everyone involved.

  7. What a brilliant idea. Hats off to the ladies who organized this fund-raising site so quickly, and to all who rallied around with items to auction.
